COACHING REQUIREMENTS 

USA Hockey is a leader across all youth sports in developing coaches through education, training and communication of the best practices. Minnesota Hockey, USA Hockey and the Coaching Education Program take great pride in ensuring youth hockey coaches are prepared to create a safe and positive learning environment for all participants. 

To meet these standards, a few basic steps are required for coaches to become certified. The following requirements must be completed before participating in any team activities, unless stated otherwise

Go to:
www.usahockey.com  > Coaches tab on the top of the web page > Become a Coach

  • Register as a member of USA Hockey. (Cost is $46 plus any affiliate fees if applicable.)
  • Complete the background screening.
  • Complete the USA Hockey Safe Sport Training. (Required every year and cannot be added to a roster until completed).
  • Complete the online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching. (Cost is $10 per module and only needs to be completed once per age level. Must be completed PRIOR to participating in any team activities and cannot be added to a roster until completed)
  • Find, register and attend the required certification clinic. The Cost is $55. You can only attend one clinic per season and all coaches start at Level 1. You can take clinics from April 1-Dec. 31 each season.

 

Certification completion dates

By October 1, 2023 –

  1. Registered with USA Hockey
  2. Background check complete
  3. Find and register for required certification clinic (Clinics available as of Sept. 1 on USA hockey web-site)
      

By October 15, 2023-

  1. Complete safe sport training, concussion training
  2. Complete age specific modules for your level

By November 1, 2023-

  1. Certification clinic complete


These certifications must be complete before you can step on the ice.

Complete a concussion training course and provide a coach concussion acknowledgement form every 2 years. Below is a link to an online course. Please submit proof of completion to the Registrar. 

To be reimbursed this form must be completed and turned into the Ely Blue Line Treasurer. Please include all receipts with completed Reimbursement form.
